La Carlota City College Alumni and Employees Amenable of the Proposed Tuition Fee Increased!

Joint consultative meeting of LCCC’s alumni, faculty and employees associates on proposed tuition fee increase held on February 26, 2020 at Friendship Hall, La Carlota City College

The meeting commenced as Dr. Mary Hope Q. Ayson, Asst. College Department Head and President of LCCC Faculty and Employees Assn. gave her welcome remarks stressing the need of tuition fee increase from 175.00 Php/ unit to 250.00 Php/ unit in which the Members of the Board of Trustees are amenable. Dr. Ayson enumerated the reasons why the increase is needed mentioning the increasing requirements demanded by CHED, the 2. 69 million city aid which cannot suffice the expenses of the college and the not increasing salary but the continuous increase of needs. “It is high time to increase our tuition” as stressed by Dr. Ayson.

The proposed tuition increase was further clarified by Dr. Luciano T. Magallanes, College President, emphasizing that there is always a need for the source of fund. “Our life blood depends on tuition fees” Dr. Magallanes said as he explained that without the increase the school cannot maintain quality education and retain quality teachers. According to him, the school cannot attract good and qualified people because it cannot offer a good pay. He also mentioned that the last increase on tuition happened last 2003, 17 years ago. He also pointed out that the increase will also result to the increase of the faculty’s honorarium and the salary of the contractual. He said “people must be happy and motivated.”

Prof. Leah R. Velasco, College Treasurer also discussed that 65% of the school’s income goes to salary while only 35% goes to other expenses. Prof. Talaman of the Agriculture Department supported the proposed increase saying “I am amenable of the increase as long as we are consistent and deserving of the increase.” Dr. Helen C. Donguines, Asst. College Department Head for Academics also said that teachers should be worthy of the increase.

In the end, alumni, faculty and employees of La Carlota City College support and are amenable of the proposed tuition fee increase which will take effect on the next school year.
