Joven G. Galitguit from BSEd Math 4 and his group were recognized as one of the best presenters during the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines-Tertiary Level (MTAP-TL) Virtual Student Conference with the theme, “Research for Change: Research. Innovate. Transform”, yesterday, December 13. The research entitled “Knowledge in Algebra and Performance in Higher Mathematics” is co-authored by Mely A. Bandiola, Joshua M. Camporaso, Charity Faith B. Gabuan, Quennie Rose G. Gatinao, Gabrielle Alexa Leonidas, Joshua G. Cahayagan, Dr. Sharon L. Apohen, and Dr. Ma. Quincy D. Dones. MTAP-TL gathers all math-related research from tertiary-level students across the country, providing a platform to showcase innovative studies and foster collaboration among future educators and researchers which continues to encourage students to pursue research endeavors that contribute to educational transformation, innovation, and the advancement of mathematics in the Philippines. There to support the presenters were CoEd Research Coordinator Mr. Joshua G. Cahayagan, Research Director Dr. Sharon L. Apohen, and BSEd Math Program Head Dr. Ma. Quincy D. Dones.
Prof. Cindy C. Villaseñor from the College of Liberal Arts clinched Best Research Paper for the research presented, "Vocabulary Skills of Second-Year Liberal Arts Students in relation to their Reading Comprehension: Basis for Intervention" during the Asian Society of Researchers, Educators, and Inventors (ASREI) Inc. Research Mastery Presentation Conference 2025, themed "From Idea to Impact: Empowering Researchers to Write and Publish with Purpose", May 29-31, 2025. The research project members are Dr. Avelino N. Santillan, Dr. Marilou B. Yanson and the following students researchers: Jirimae F. Casandra, Mayve Jane B. Dalisay, Niño Radjane G. Domino, Amie R. Eborda, Jovelyn D. Locton, Virgilio S. Barcelona of the College of Education was awarded Best Research Abstract for the research entitled "Challenges Encountered, Coping Mechanisms, and Insights Gained of Primary Teachers in Integrating Technology in the Classroom" at the 3rd Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA) National Research Conference held at Diliman College, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, May 31. La Carlota City College participates in the 3rd Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA) National Research Conference at Diliman College, Quezon City, May 30-31. The event conducts workshops on topics such as "Policy and Governance for Sustainable Research: Bridging Science and Action" and "Strengthening Research Ecosystem: Bridging Local Innovations for Global Sustainability." LCCC—The College of Criminal Justice, College of Liberal Arts, and College of Business and Management gathered at the LCCC Main Campus for their annual Research Colloquium, May 27-28. Among the panelists were Dr. Sharon L. Apohen; Dr. Eva B. Solis; Dr. Alfredo M. Calama-an; Dr. Trudy C. Cerbo; Dr. Marilou B. Yanson; Dr. Rosemarie L. Lagunday; Dr. Maylin M. Tongcua; Dr. Joyce C. Decendario; and Mr. Marvin Elray R. Paclibar, who have reviewed the different researches of the students and gave suggestions to further improve their works. Research and Creative Works Office (RACWO) and the College of Agriculture (CoAg) of La Carlota City College (LCCC) hosted a seminar on experimental research with the theme, “Advancing Research Landscapes” at LCCC - Cubay Campus Library, October 4. Prof. Ma. Cecilia C. Mercado, Dean of CoAg, delivered the opening remarks. This was followed by a rationale of the program from Dr. Sharon L. Apohen, Research Director. Prof. Luciano T. Magallanes, Research and Statistics Professor of CoAg, served as the resource speaker. He discussed experimental research, characteristics of good research, and different designs in experimental research. The seminar wrapped up with a Q&A session, where the dean engaged students in a discussion.
Josh Horace C. Reyes, a 3rd-Year BSEd-English student, and Prof. Melissa M. Navia, College of Education Instructor, represented La Carlota City College (LCCC) in the 5th Instabright National Research Congress held at the View Park Hotel, Tagaytay City, October 18. The 5th Instabright National Research Congress is an event organized by the Instabright Guild of Researchers and Educators, Inc., which aims to promote research and publication among professionals. Reyes presented the research entitled "Beyond the Letters: A Closer Look at the Lived Experiences of Non-readers in Junior High School," while Prof. Navia presented the study entitled "A Correlational Study on the Experiential Learning Performance and Employment Readiness of Pre-Service Teachers: Implications for Program Enhancement". Together with them was Dr. Trudy C. Cerbo, Dean of the College of Education.
La Carlota City College (LCCC) participated in the First Mathematical Society of the Philippines-Negros Island Region Research Congress and Convention (MSP-NIR RCC) with the theme, “Numbers, Insights, and Rigor: Building a Mathematics-Driven Future for the Negros Island Region (NIR)” held at the Silliman University Library, September 24-25. Research Director Dr. Sharon L. Apohen presented the study entitled “Knowledge in Algebra and Performance of Students in Higher Mathematics” and BSEd Mathematics senior student Kristian Roland R. Alfonso presented the research entitled “Career Readiness, Teaching Efficacy, and Experiential Learning Performance of Pre-Service Teachers.” Also with them was Dr. Ma. Quincy D. Dones, a co-author on both studies. Dr. Editha Carreon-Jose, MSP National President and Professor of Mathematics at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, served as the keynote speaker. The plenary session was joined by Dr. Ma. Louise Antonette N. De Las Peñas, NRCP President and Professor of Mathematics at Ateneo de Manila University; Dr. Garry Cachuela, Teacher Education Council and Professor of Mathematics Education at West Visayas State University Lambunao Campus; Dr. Alexander Jimena Balsomo, MSP Region 6 President, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Professor of Mathematics at West Visayas State University; and Dr. Felix Saucedo Zendejo from Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, Mexico.
